Broadband Matching
Sometimes a wideband match is required. This can be a wideband match into an active
device, or a passive device, like an antenna. If a wideband match into an active device is
required then, either the device impedance must be known at different frequencies, or it
must be able to be represented by a simple circuit, containing resistors, capacitors and
inductors. Often, small or large signal S parameter data, or manufacturers device models
are used. Since AWR DE is good at optimising networks, it is often the easiest to design
a first-guess of the matching network by cascading a succession of simple matching
networks and then improve the performance by optimisation.
